Scoped work for small teams

Make one existing, non-critical workflow easier to diagnose and recover. The Automation Reliability Service covers a defined workflow, an agreed problem and an evidence-backed handoff. It is not a platform migration or a promise to manage every automation.

What the scoped work includes

  1. Diagnosis: map the trigger, inputs, dependencies, side effects, current failure and existing approval boundaries. Agree a non-sensitive reproduction and acceptance criteria.
  2. Approved hardening: propose only the changes justified by that diagnosis. Examples include stable workflow identifiers, conflicting-input rejection, bounded retries and timeouts, explicit approval gates, failure evidence and a safe reconciliation path. You approve consequential changes before implementation.
  3. Evidence and recovery handoff: receive the scoped change, before/after evidence, readable and machine-readable reports, stop/reconcile/retry instructions, a disposable recovery exercise and remaining limitations. Your team retains operational control.

Suitable starting points include a non-critical internal report, a scheduled export or an internal record-processing step. Excluded work includes live trading or payment execution, medical or safety-critical decisions, authentication changes and irreversible production migrations.

The Python 3.9+ standard-library kit, version 1.0.1, is runnable without installing packages. Its runtime creates only marked, disposable temporary state and fixed synthetic effects, with no network requests, subprocesses, user-code execution, credentials or production connectors. The included CLI regression tests launch only this fixed synthetic runner.

After extracting it, run python3 -m unittest -v test_runner.py, then python3 runner.py demo. The kit prints the paths to its JSON/text reports and a restored disposable copy. Its README, fixed fixtures and runbook explain the commands and expected stop conditions.

The exercises cover duplicate and conflicting IDs, bounded transient retries, retry exhaustion, permanent failure, timeout, withheld approval and interruption on either side of a synthetic effect. An uncertain effect requires reconciliation; it is never blindly retried. Restoration always creates a new disposable copy.

Version 1.0.1 preserves failed outcomes and nonzero exit status when terminal failures are repeated; only completed work is a successful duplicate. The path-guard tests run independently of symlink support. A symlink-only test is skipped with a reason when the operating system does not permit creating symlinks; no permission changes are needed.

A runnable example is not a production guarantee. There is no exactly-once claim, fixed response SLA, guaranteed recovery or 24/7 management. A real workflow needs its own scope, evidence and owner-approved acceptance criteria.

Describe one workflow category, what currently happens and the desired outcome. No email is required. Do not submit credentials, client records, private URLs, pasted logs or executable code. There are no uploads, automatic URL fetches, mail notifications or checkout.
